After reading all I have written previously you might be thinking if using English at home should be contemplated, but in reality, using as much English as possible at home, the park, supermarket etc while attending English schools, or international kindergartens such as Little Lorikeets is Important.

Everyone giving it a try is important

The Primary language or national language of non-English countries is going to be overwhelming. It is the language spoken at shopping malls, between friends and relatives, it’s in the movies, on the television. It is written on signs and advertising. It is literally everywhere. There is no way of children not picking up their native language.

So to counterbalance that we should try to immerse the children in English or any other language you want them to learn “As much as possible”.

If they think its fun they will study by themselves and make it their own

Some parents feel self-conscious talking to their babies when outside in front of other parents who are speaking Japanese. Especially when the young child is not responding, but give it time, and consistency and you will be talking together soon enough.

You need to set this habit young because if you try to do it when they are speaking Japanese to you it will be very hard to change.

And even if you do manage to form the habit, the older they get the less likely they will want to speak to you in English, so you have to make the most of it while you can.

The more proficient the child is in English the more likely they will, depending on your ability, and continue to speak English to you in the future. Don’t give up, keep trying.
