ESLとは、英語を生活言語としている国の中で英語を学ぶこと。なので、学校内の生徒はいろんな国から来ています。それぞれ言語が違うので、お互い喋る時は「英語」となるわけです。
そして、学校から一歩外に出ても、見るのも・聞くのも全て英語になります。
公園・スーパー・ビーチ。テレビ・ラジオ。ビルの名前や標識。全てが英語でかかれてあります。
「現地に行って生活すれば言語習得が早い」とは、言うまでもありませんね！！
EFLとは、英語以外の言葉が生活言語の国で英語を学ぶことです。
日本で英語を学ぶことは「EFL」にあたります。日本で英語を学んでいる者同士がコミュニケーションをはかる時、もちろん日本語の方が簡単ですね。
そして、学校から一歩でても、見るもの・聞くこと全てが日本語になります。
標識・テレビ・ラジオ・・・。
外国人もいますが、全ての人が英語を話すわけではありませんし、外国から来た人は日本語を学びに来ている人もいるので、英語で話したがらない人もいます。
ESLに比べ、時間もかかるし、ゆっくり習得していくものになります。
これらのことからも分かるように、日本いながら英語を話せるようになるためには相当の努力が必要になります。
できる限り、目に見える・聞こえてくるものを英語に変えてあげること。少しづつでも確実に違いが出てきます。
諦めずに努力することがとても大切ですね。

With ESL the student goes to a country where the majority language is English, they study at an English school but all the other students are from other countries so they have to speak to each other in English. They leave the school and every one around them is speaking English, at the parks in the super markets, at the beach. English is on the TV and radio, bill boards and signs are written in English.
In an ESL environment acquiring English is fast and easy.
On the other hand EFL the country the student is in Japan for example speaks another language other then English. The students at the English school are all Japanese so communication in Japanese is easier then in English. when the students leave the school they are surrounded by Japanese, the signs are in Japanese, the TV is in Japanese the radio too. There are Foreigners but they are rare and not all of them speak English, also some foreigners are in Japan to learn Japanese so are unwilling to speak English.
In an EFL environment English acquisition is slow and hard.
This is why it is important to create and Environment where the Japanese Students get to see and speak lots of English, at home listen and watch lots of English, and the sooner this happens the better it will be for that student to become fluent in English.
